Sparkle Light

I seem to have a thing for light on the water these days. I like how this looks like an evening shot but was actually taken about high noon. Sparkle, sparkle.

Yellow Sunflower

This bright beauty was nestled in tons of sunflowers at the Farmers Market. Such a happy sunflower!

Bartow, WV

Driving through West Virginia, you can't help but notice all the farms and rolling hills and barns and other out buildings. I like the little window on this one and the pattern on the roof.

Water Color

I love the image of lights on water. Add the evening glow and an abstract viewpoint. The movement and shimmer on the water, without the context of the docks and the boats, makes it a bit of a mystery. I like a mystery.

Geese

These geese were flying above my apartment balcony - a stroke of luck, really. I loved the bright interpretation instead of the blue sky - seeing them flying, making all that noise. I saw bright yellow.

Mountain Fire

Sunset on the mountain range. Simply beautiful.

The Blue Blue Ridge Mountains

The Blue Ridge Mountains, brought to you courtesy of West Virginia. How lovely.

Buffalo Lake, West Virginia

This spot was so peaceful. Just me on the shore and this couple quietly fishing out in the lake. I faded the colors in the photo and gave it a slight blur, hoping to give it a warm, vintage feel. That's how it felt that day.

Jana's Fluffy Sunflower

This fluffy gem was a surprise! I had never seen such a sunflower in my life. My friend Jana grows them - they are amazing!

Sunflower

I really liked the deep colors of this sunflower. I've been so used to the bright yellow ones, this was a very nice change.

I can never quite recover from the pattern of the seeds on sunflowers. The subtle striping of color in the leaves. What a beautiful thing.

Blueberries

These scrumptious berries were on display at DC's Eastern Market. I loved them in their little turquoise containers, all plumped up and spilling over.

Butterfly

A beautiful butterfly, a beautiful day, beautiful flowers...how can you go wrong?

Eggplants

I took this photo at the Eastern Market in Washington, DC. The colors of ALL the produce were amazing. I especially loved the deep purple of these eggplants.

The Fourth

Big fun on the Fourth of July!
It was nice to be able to get some close up shots as things were firing off. I love the variety of colors with this one.

Dorsey Chapel

A good friend was married at this chapel, an historic site in Bowie, Maryland. It dates back to the early 1900's.
The photo was taken in color but looks black and white - I love that.

The Road There

I am partial to high contrast black & white prints. This final print looks much different than the original. In this B&W version, it evokes a certain feeling of mystery - movement up the road, anticipation of what is coming around the corner. I love the way the trees' shadows fall across the road.

Maymont Steps

These are the steps leading down from the Italian Gardens at Maymont - a beautiful park in Richmond, VA.

I've always loved the design of the them - from any angle. I especially like it in Black & White. I think it really brings out the form.

Being Thirteen

Here's something different!

This project is made up of 4x6 individual photos clipped together to make a larger finished product. I love the look on his face - that "I'm so wise at 13" look.

Green Climber

Brought to you from my overgrown backyard. I really love the green color of this climber. It's a shame I'll have to cut it back soon!

Daisy

This little beauty grows in my front yard. Someone asked me why would I do flower photos in black & white? I think it helps to accentuate the patterns better and adds an air of abstractness to the photo.

Nature's patterns are the most amazing. You couldn't make them up any better.

Striped Leaves

I've been watching these plants in my front garden for awhile now. I've always loved the pattern of the stripes and the intense green color.

Baby Bird Sitting on a Twig

A little baby that was taken in by friends.  Lost his whole bird family.  His new family is working out just fine.

Spring Butterfly

I like to hang out at Bear Creek Lake State Park outside of Powhattan. Lots of trails, a little lake, trees, nature - all the good stuff.

This butterfly was very patient and was kind enough to pose for me.

Pink Dahlia

Isn't it lovely?

I finally planted a garden last summer.  This is one of the last of the season - she's a beauty! I had limited success with the other 75 plants I stuck in the ground, but this baby gives me hope.

A new growing season is upon us.  My fingers are crossed!

Clouds

This was an amazing looking sky! I took this from my driveway - great shots are never far away, really.

MoMA

Definitely one the highlights of my trip to NYC was visiting the Museum of Modern Art. Really amazing! Here's a shot of the floor near the entrance - it is done in tape! And it just got way better from there. GO TO MOMA!

Rain & Mountains

This is the view from Afton Mountain, outside Charlottesville, VA. I had been hoping for a sunny day with miles of mountains and lovely fall colours. But really, the bad weather and fog and rain really saturated everything and totally highlighted the landscape. SO glad the weather Gods didn't listen to me!

Mushroom

Found this HUGE mushroom at the base of tree at Bear Creek State Park, near Richmond, Virginia. It is ironic that I was searching out the last possible autumn forest colors and I end up with this one! It definitely did not have the same impact in color.
